Delegation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development of Uganda Visited the Department of Engineering Physics

On the afternoon of December 12, the delegation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development of Uganda visited Tsinghua University and convened an exchange seminar with the Department of Engineering Physics. The meeting was chaired by associate professor Shi Jiaru, Assistant Director of the Department of Engineering Physics.

Professor Yang Yigang, Deputy Dean of the Department of Engineering Physics and Director of TUNEM Program, opened the proceedings with a warm welcome to the Ugandan delegation on their first visit. He highlighted the curriculum framework of the International Master's Program in Nuclear Engineering and Management (TUNEM) and presented a detailed overview of the program’s 2026 enrollment initiatives. Professor Yang expressed his anticipation that Ugandan energy authorities would continue to nominate outstanding young professionals for advanced studies at Tsinghua, thereby joining hands to cultivate a robust talent pool for the advancement of nuclear energy across Africa.

Simon Tebasulwa Kalanzi, Director General of the Department of Nuclear Energy under Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals, conveyed his sincere gratitude for the warm reception accorded to the delegation by Tsinghua University. He lauded the remarkable contributions made by the Department of Engineering Physics and the TUNEM program to talent development in Uganda’s nuclear energy sector, emphasizing that the program has emerged as a pivotal bridge facilitating cooperation between China and Uganda in advanced energy technologies. He affirmed that Uganda is fully committed to deepening long-term collaboration with Tsinghua University, further refining the mechanisms for talent deployment and joint cultivation, and joining hands to propel the synergistic development of nuclear energy cooperation between the two nations.


This meeting has further solidified the cooperative consensus between Tsinghua University and Uganda in nuclear energy education. It stands as a tangible practice of actively responding to the Belt and Road Initiative, while advancing higher education exchanges and energy cooperation between China and Africa.
