On the afternoon of October 16, 2025, the freshmen symposium of the 2025 grade of the International Master's Degree Program in Nuclear Power Engineering and Management (TUNEM) of Tsinghua University was held in Room 105 of Liu Qing Building.
Ms. Huang Mengqi,the Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Department of the Nuclear Power Department of the National Energy Administration and Mr. Jia Zhicheng, a cadre of the China Nuclear Power Development Center; Mr. Ding Qiang, the Director of the International Cooperation Center of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC); Mr. Fei Min, the International Business Director of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC)’s National Nuclear Power Technology Co., Ltd.; Mr. Yang Bin, Mr. Tang Wenzhong, and Mr. Miao Hongliang, the Deputy General Managers of the International Business Department of China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN)'s China General Nuclear Engineering Co., Ltd.; Mr. Sun Fu, the Director of the Training Office of the Graduate School of Tsinghua University, Mr. Lu Yuexiang, the Assistant to the President of the Nuclear Research Institute and the Head of the Research Team, Professor Yang Yigang, Director of TUNEM, Deputy Dean of Department of Engineering Physics, and Mr. Ni Jianping, the Head of the graduate student working group of the Department of Engineering Physics;All the 2025 Class Freshmen of the TUNEM Program attended this meeting. First of all, Mr. Sun Fu delivered a speech on behalf of Tsinghua University and welcomed the new students. He extended a warm welcome to the freshmen of the 2025 TUNEM program, inviting them to start their two-year study and life on the beautiful Tsinghua campus. He stated that the TUNEM project aims to cultivate comprehensive leading talents and engineering and technical management personnel in the nuclear power industry for the countries along the "Belt and Road" initiative, with a profound vision. The program received strong support from the National Energy Administration, three major nuclear power groups, and Tsinghua University from the very beginning, and achieved remarkable results. He believes that the students will surely achieve success during their two-year study and life and will live up to their youth.

Subsequently, the class representative of the 2025 Mexican freshmen, Ande(Andres Gardner), and the Turkish freshman, Ruo Xi(Artan,Ecem), spoke on behalf of all the freshmen. Ande and Ruo Xi expressed their gratitude to the TUNEM program for providing them with valuable learning opportunities, and thanked all the enterprises, schools, and teachers who have served the TUNEM program. The outstanding reputation of Tsinghua University in the field of nuclear energy and the unique "courses + practice" training model of the TUNEM program were the main reasons for their choice of the this program. They were deeply impressed by China's leadership in the field of innovation, the vigorous vitality of the technology industry, and the profound academic accumulation of Tsinghua University.

Representatives from the three nuclear power groups also delivered speeches. Mr. Ding Qiang stated that he was honored to represent CNNC to welcome the new students. In the future, CNNC will continue to do its best to assist all the students. He hoped that everyone could have a pleasant study period and become a bridge for cooperation between CNNC and their home countries.Mr. Fei Min described the development history of SPIC and the numerous achievements the group has made in the field of clean energy. He also said that in the future, the group will do its best to provide mentors whose research directions are suitable for everyone. He hoped that the two years of study would become wonderful memories for everyone in the future. Mr. Yang Bin represented CGN and said that since the establishment of the TUNEM project, CGN has provided strong support. In the future, CGN will continue to work together with all parties and contribute to achieving greater results for the TUNEM project. He also welcomed the students to visit and practice in Shenzhen in the future.

During the discussion and exchange session, the new students who attended the meeting spoke one by one, sharing their own insights and aspirations regarding the purpose of joining the TUNEM project and their experiences of entering Tsinghua University. The on-site exchanges were very in-depth.

Finally, Ms. Huang Mengqi delivered the closing speech. On behalf of the Nuclear Power Department of the National Energy Administration, she welcomed the new students to study at Tsinghua University. She pointed out that to address global climate change, nuclear energy is becoming increasingly important in the energy sector. In the future, nuclear energy will definitely become one of the pillar energies. After more than forty years of arduous efforts, China's nuclear power has achieved significant development. The TUNEM project has also received high praise from various countries. Based on China's advanced technologies and leading level in the nuclear energy field, as well as on the good cooperation model and working mechanism established by the National Energy Administration, the three major nuclear power groups, and Tsinghua University, as well as the rich courses and practical activities of the TUNEM project itself, she believes that all the students will have a fulfilling and enjoyable learning experience. Finally, she expressed her sincere gratitude to the teachers and staff of Tsinghua University and nuclear power enterprises who have devoted a lot of effort to the TUNEM project!

Finally, the attending guests and freshmen were divided into two groups to visit the laboratories of the Department of Engineering Physics. This visit opened up the accelerator laboratory, the spherical tokamak device laboratory, and the radiation detection laboratory. Through the visit and learning experience, the students gained a deeper understanding of the Department of Engineering Physics and the TUNEM project, and became more eager for their future study and research life.

Tsinghua University International Master's Program in Nuclear Engineering and Management (TUNEM) is a specialized master's degree program meticulously designed to cultivate high-level engineering and management talents in the international nuclear power field, in response to the national strategy of "Belt and Road Initiative" and the "going global" of China's nuclear power technology and equipment. The program aims to cultivate comprehensive leading talents and engineering and technical backbone personnel who possess excellent engineering literacy and professional expertise, understand the development direction of nuclear power, recognize China's nuclear power technology, and have the willingness to engage in international friendly cooperation with China. The TUNEM project is jointly carried out by the Department of Engineering and Physics of Tsinghua University, the Nuclear Research Institute, and the three major nuclear power groups - China National Nuclear Corporation(CNNC), State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), and China General Nuclear Power Group(CGN).
During the 2025 admission season, through joint promotion and publicity by Tsinghua University, the three major nuclear power groups, and relevant government departments, the program received a large number of applications from Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Africa. After multiple rounds of screening, a total of 24 students came to the school to register.
