Tsinghua Turkish Nuclear Alumni First Exchange Meeting Held


On September 25, 2025, the First Turkish Alumni Exchange Meeting of the SPIC-Tsinghua University International Master's Program in Nuclear Power Engineering and Management (TUNEM Program) was successfully held in a combined offline and online format. Hosted by the Human Resources Department of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) and co-organized by SPIC's Turkey Representative Office, the offline main venue was located in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Professor Yang Yigang, Deputy Dean of the Department of Engineering Physics at Tsinghua University and Director of the TUNEM Program, along with Professor Yu Jiyang, Head Teacher of the TUNEM Program, were invited to attend the meeting. A total of 15 TUNEM Program alumni and current students from Turkey participated in the event.

The meeting was chaired by Chen Fan, Deputy Director of the International  Business  Department of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) and Deputy Representative of SPIC's Turkey Representative Office. Mr. Mete BÜLGÜN , General Manager of Turkey's EMBA Company, was invited to deliver a welcome speech. Mr.Zhu Meng, Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department of SPIC, and Professor Yang Yigang, Deputy Dean of the Department of Engineering Physics at Tsinghua University, also delivered speeches respectively.

Mr. Zhu Meng fully affirmed the high alignment between the TUNEM Program and the Group's talent needs. He stated that the Group will further deepen its cooperation with the TUNEM Program in the future to ensure a steady supply of professional talent in the nuclear power field for both China and Turkey.

Professor Yang Yigang stated that the Department of Engineering Physics has established a long-term and stable university-enterprise cooperation relationship with SPIC. He expressed gratitude to SPIC for its long-standing support for the TUNEM Program in aspects such as student recruitment recommendations, curriculum development, supervisor guidance, practical opportunity provision, career guidance, alumni affairs, and resource support. Professor Yang added that the Department of Engineering Physics at Tsinghua University will continue to cultivate internationally leading talent in the nuclear power field through an in-depth integration model of industry, academia, and research in the future.

Turkish alumni highly praised the TUNEM Program, stating that its curriculum covers fundamental mathematics, nuclear energy engineering, nuclear engineering ethics, engineering management, and interdisciplinary content, which lay a solid theoretical foundation for the cultivation of international talent; on-campus supervisors and corporate mentors provide careful guidance on professional practice and research projects; the program offers Chinese culture-related courses and practical activities featuring a positive and friendly learning atmosphere as well as an open and inclusive learning environment. All Turkish alumni expressed their commitment to applying the knowledge they have acquired to their country’s nuclear energy and clean energy undertakings. They vowed to serve as a bridge for energy cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Turkey, contributing to the cooperation and development of the energy sectors in both countries.

Mr.Necati Yamaç, General Manager of Turkey's National Nuclear Energy Company, expressed sincere gratitude for the convening of this exchange meeting. He pointed out that the graduates jointly trained by SPIC and Tsinghua University have performed excellently in various departments of Turkey's National Nuclear Energy Company, demonstrating a solid professional foundation and good professional quality. He expressed support and gratitude for the follow-up and return visits regarding graduates' career development carried out by SPIC and Tsinghua University. At the same time, he put forward suggestions for further optimization and improvement of the TUNEM Program in the future, pointing out that graduation projects should pay more attention to engineering practice and be more practical, and that more Chinese language courses should be provided to improve students' Chinese proficiency.

Finally, Ms.Cheng Xiaohong, Deputy Director of the International Business Department at SPIC Headquarters, delivered a concluding speech. She extended best wishes to the Turkish alumni, encouraged them to actively contribute to China-Turkey energy cooperation, and also expressed her sincere aspirations for the vigorous development of the nuclear power industry in both countries. She expressed the expectation that mutually beneficial win-win results would be achieved through university-enterprise cooperation and talent linkage.

The Department of Engineering Physics of Tsinghua University, as well as the Human Resources Department, International Business Department, Nuclear Energy Safety and Development Department, and Party Committee Publicity Department of SPIC (State Power Investment Corporation Limited), participated in the meeting  via  video  link  from  Beijing. Meanwhile, SPIC Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. and SPIC International (Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd.) joined the meeting via video link from Shanghai.
